Abstract

REIGADA-OLAIZOLA, Alicia. Agrarian restructuring, labor migration and feminization of labor in Andalucía (Spain). agric. soc. desarro [online]. 2011, vol.8, n.1, pp.19-43. ISSN 1870-5472.

In this study we set out to approach, from the perspective of feminist anthropology, the analysis of the principal changes that have arisen in Andalucía (Spain) from the introduction of policies for hiring quotas1 of immigrant women in their countries of origin in the intensive cultivation of strawberry. Starting from a qualitative methodology, sustained on in-depth interviews and participant observation, we will try to illustrate the specific connection that is established between territorial division of labor, policies of hiring in countries of origin, and feminization of labor in this globalized agriculture.

Keywords : Feminist anthropology; studies on gender and agrarian labor; agricultural and food globalization; hiring foreign labor in countries of origin.
