Abstract

In places like the Mixe Subregion, set of six indigenous communities at the state of Oaxaca, the land grants sense of identity and belonging. The purpose of this document is to show the relationship between identity and social capital as essential elements to keep the natural resources and develop of the community, considering the indigenous worldview, skills and capabilities to organize them. Evidence was found that from tequio, a form of community participation, people find new fields of opportunity that result in the use of their individual and collective skills, which are being framed to promote processes of economic, political, social, cultural and environmental activities designed to boost the capacity to generate higher levels of life quality for the community.
