Abstract

TORRES MARTINEZ, Rubén. The Evolving Relationship of the State and the Catholic Church in Mexico in the Neoliberal Context of the Late Twentieth Century. Península [online]. 2014, vol.9, n.1, pp.59-80. ISSN 1870-5766.

In the last 30 years, the relationship between the Mexican State and the Catholic Church had changed radically. This evolution could be referred to as a change from a "revolutionary" State to a "neoliberal" state. The Salinas de Gortari administration (1988-1994) carried out major reforms in this area The arrival of the PAN governments has not meant a real breakthrough in legal terms for the Catholic Church that nevertheless found a place in the public debate.

Keywords : México; Catholic Church; revolutionary State; neoliberal State.
