Abstract

ITURRIAGA, Eugenia  and  RODRIGUEZ, Yassir. Racism and Development: the Uh Najil Tourism Project in Ek Balam, Yucatan. Península [online]. 2015, vol.10, n.2, pp.49-70. ISSN 1870-5766.  https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pnsla.2015.08.003.

In this paper, by analyzing a development project in a Mayan community in the Mexican state of Yucatan as well as the discourse of its promoters, we want to show how a naturalized racism appears in the visions of the promoters seeking to "help" indigenous communities achieve development. We argue that the idea of development is an aura that disguises a series of power relations that express, implement, and promote a discourse where the racism is present.

Keywords : Racism; Development; Mayans; Discourse; interethnic relations.
