Abstract

ISLAS CAMARGO, Alejandro  and  MORENO SANTOYO, Samuel G.. Determinantes del flujo de remesas en México, un análisis empírico. EconoQuantum [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.2, pp.9-36. ISSN 2007-9869.

This paper analyzes the relationship between workers' remittances to Mexico and a group of macroeconomic variables. We review the theoretical literature on the determinants of international workers' remittances and then posit a hypothesis that is analyzed through a Vector-Error Correction Model to identify workers' remittances long-run determinants. Empirical results indicate that investment decisions are more important than altruistic motives to remit. We also find a significantly inverse relationship between the number of migrant and remittances that could be an indicator that migration to the USA is of long-term or permanent.

Keywords : remesas; migración; cointegración.
