Abstract
CUECUECHA MENDOZA, Alfredo and ADAMS, JR., Richard H.. El impacto de las remesas sobre tres diferentes indicadores de pobreza en Guatemala. EconoQuantum [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.1, pp.89-112. ISSN 2007-9869.
This paper uses a nationally-representative household data set from Guatemala to analyze how the receipt of international remittances (from USA) affects the probability of being poor, the severity of poverty and the inequality among the poor. Three findings emerge. First, controlling for selection and endogeneity, households receiving international remittances have a lower probability of being poor. Second, controlling for endogeneity and censoring, international remittances reduce the severity of poverty. Third, controlling for endogeneity and censoring, international remittances increase marginally the inequality among the poor.
