Abstract

SANCHEZ GAVI, José Luis. Human Mobility. Migration under the Catholic Church Perspective. Tla-melaua [online]. 2016, vol.9, n.39, pp.108-130. ISSN 2594-0716.

This paper describes and analyzes the impact that the Catholic Church has on migration in the state of Puebla. In the federal entity, the ecclesial institution has expressed its interest and concern about migration. Moreover, it has developed its work in the humanitarian field, and has sought alternatives for the family members that remain in local communities.

Puebla occupies the fifth national place as federal entity that ejects migrants. It is important to consider that the number of transmigrants in Puebla's territory has become significantly higher. They have modified their migration routes in order to reduce insecurity threats from the common ones.

Native and returning migrants and transmigrants are part of the social, economic, cultural, religious and political reality in Puebla's scenario. This issue requires an approach in the fields of academic research and public policies.

The Church, as any other non-governmental organization, adds to the tasks of support, protection and report; in the middle of a panorama of uncertainty, insecurity and violence that afflicts migrants.

Under its particular religious and ideological perspective, the Church seeks to influence the definition of migration policies, and to maintain a form of legitimacy in society.

Keywords : Migration; Transmigration; Church; Pastoral Care of Mobility; Human Rights; Migrant Houses.
