Abstract

ROJAS BOTELLO, Emmanuel. Constructing subjects in Luis Echeverría Álvarez's presidential investiture speech: An approach to the populist discourse in Mexico. Tzintzun. Rev. estud. históricos [online]. 2015, n.62, pp.271-303. ISSN 2007-963X.

The convulsive events in the late 1960s, social pressure, the weakening of institutional pacts based on corporate spirit, the criticism of the presidential system, as well as economic slowdown were some of the worrying topics which shaped the institutional discourse to a great extent. The present work uses discourse analysis as its methodological framework and subject construction within the discourse as a category of analysis, relying on the characterization of subjects as suggested by Eliseo Verón.

Keywords : political discourse; populism; discourse analysis; subject construction; Mexico 20th century.
