SANTIAGO SANABRIA, Leopoldo; ISLAS TEZPA, David  and  FLORES RAMOS, Mónica. Postpartum mood disorders. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.2, pp.173-177.  Epub Oct 31, 2022. ISSN 1870-7203.  https://doi.org/10.35366/104280.

Maternity blues, postpartum depression, and postpartum psychosis represent the most important mood disorders during the puerperium. They have a high prevalence during this period, with maternity blues being the most common disorder, due to its presence in approximately 80% of women. By not being diagnosed promptly, they affect the family and jeopardize the well-being and integrity of both the mother and the newborn, which makes them disorders that cannot go unnoticed during the medical follow-up. The present article is a review of aspects like the prevalence, the pathophysiology, the clinical manifestations, and the diagnosis and correct treatment, so that healthcare professionals become aware of these conditions, intending to provide adequate management.

Keywords : Mood disorders; maternity blues; postpartum depression; postpartum psychosis.
