Abstract

OCAMPO VALENCIA, Delia Brenda Paola et al. Prevalence of depression, anxiety and burnout in newly admitted resident physicians at Angeles Hospitals in the metropolitan area. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.4, pp.302-306.  Epub May 26, 2023. ISSN 1870-7203.  https://doi.org/10.35366/107112.

Objective:

To evaluate the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and burnout in newly admitted resident physicians at Hospital Angeles in the metropolitan area.

Material and methods:

Prospective, cross-sectional study was carried out with students registered in the Grupo Angeles induction course; a general questionnaire, the Beck scale for depression, the GAD-7 scale to assess anxiety, and the Maslach scale for burnout were applied. The data were analyzed in the IBM SPSS v.24 programs, using χ2.

Results:

95 students participated, 56.8% women and 43.2% men. 2.1 and 1.1% of the participants had mild and moderate to severe depression respectively; 8.4 had moderate anxiety and 1.1% had severe anxiety. 52.6 and 44.2% had moderate and severe burnout respectively. Working and studying simultaneously were associated with the intensity of anxiety (p = 0.015).

Conclusion:

Anxiety and burnout were the most frequent pathologies found in the students; working and studying simultaneously for the national residency exam was associated with the severity of anxiety presented.
