Abstract
GUZMAN RAMIREZ, Perla Marlene. Utility of using the MPM-II model to predict mortality risk compared to SAPS-II in adult Intensive Care Unit patients. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.2, pp.115-118. Epub Oct 20, 2023. ISSN 1870-7203. https://doi.org/10.35366/110255.
Introduction:
there are methods to assess mortality in intensive care units (ICU), and some of these are the mortality probability models (MPM) and the simplified acute physiology score (SAPS). However, this consistency has yet to be exhaustively evaluated in Mexico.
Objective:
measure the relationship between MPM-II and SAPS-II.
Material and methods:
a cross-sectional study was carried out in individuals who received ICU care, MPM-II and SAPS-II values were calculated between March 2020 and March 2021, and correlations, regression analysis, and consistency between both tools were measured.
Results:
the accumulated percentage of mortality of MPM-II was 53.81%, and of SAPS-II, 59.93%. An association was found between age and MPM-II and between MPM-II and SAPS-II. In the regression analysis, for every 32.78% obtained in SAPS-II, an increase of 0.505% in MPM-II was predicted. A Cronbach’s alpha was calculated between MPM-II and SAPS-II, obtaining a value of 0.634.
Conclusion:
correlations were identified between MPM-II and SAPS-II and their mortality rate in men and women treated in the ICU. Little variability was found in its prognostic capacity, and sufficient statistical consistency in both was found.
