Abstract

PALACIO PERALTA, Manuel Gustavo; RANGEL-SALAZAR, José Luis  and  MOGUEL VIVEROS, Reyna. Two recent records of the Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) in the Eastern Mountains of Chiapas. Huitzil [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.2, pp.52-55. ISSN 1870-7459.

The Resplendent Quetzal is a symbol for the conservation of the evergreen cloud forest of Mesoamerica. Here we present two records for the Eastern Mountains of Chiapas. The records were obtained during the breeding (April), and non-breading (August) seasons. The site where the records were obtained has suffered intensive forest loss, thus the breeding and non-breeding habitats for quetzals in the region are in danger.

Keywords : evergreen cloud forest; reproductive habitat; Mexico; extinction risk.
