Abstract

We present the first photographic record of the presence of the Common Merganser (Mergus merganser) wintering in the state of Durango, Mexico. We recorded three individuals, two females and one male. This paper provides information on the sighting at the San Gabriel Dam, municipality of Ocampo, on 31 January 2011, which represents a 500 km range extension and one of the southernmost records of the distribution of this species.
