In the tropics, knowledge of the spatial distribution of species is still incomplete. This allows the discovery of new species, broadening the distribution of species in a biotic region, and confirming the presence of a taxon in a different site. On 8 April 2018, we recorded the presence of two adult Rufous-naped Wrens (Campylorhynchus rufinucha) subspecies rufinucha, in riparian vegetation of the Ostuta River, surrounded by fields and cattle herds. We made this record on the Mexican Pacific slope, in the coastal plain of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca about 100 km in a straight-line North from the southern limit of the known distribution. The birds displayed reproductive behavior with a nest in a palm genus Sabal therefore are likely part of a resident population. Historically, this subspecies has been considered endemic to the Mexican Atlantic slope, so it is important to carry out phylogeographic studies to know the degree of interconnection of the populations of both slopes, since the Isthmus of Tehuantepec functions as a corridor for the reproductive birds of the lowlands of the Pacific and the Atlantic in Mexico.
