More than 150 avian species have been recorded for the Revillagigedo Archipelago, but until this study there has been no record of a hummingbird species. In November 2017, during an expedition for seasonal monitoring of terrestrial birds on Isla Socorro, we observed three hummingbirds. We distinguished the individuals as belonging to the Archilochus genus of small migratory hummingbirds, mainly due to the small body structure in flight and long beak. They also had morph similar to that of the adult female or juvenile of the Black-chinned Hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri) that winters in continental western Mexico. We observed one individual feeding on the nectar of amole (Ipomoea triloba) flowers within the mixed scrub vegetation of the island. This is the first record of a hummingbird species in the Revillagigedo Archipelago, and first record of the Black-chinned Hummingbird on Isla Socorro, increasing the biological richness of the island, as well as the distribution of the Black-chinned Hummingbird.
