Abstract

VELTMEYER, Henry. Una sinopsis de la idea de desarrollo. Migr. desarro [online]. 2010, vol.8, n.14, pp.9-34. ISSN 1870-7599.

Although it can be traced back if not in the mists of time then at least to the moral and philosophic quest for a better form of society in the eighteenth century, the idea of development was <<invented>>, as it were, in the wake of the second world war in the hope and expectation of a <<new world>>, a better life for the majority of the world's people, many of whom were mired in poverty. Development has been hampered by the social and economical structure of society at the time of the meeting of their needs, not to mention the realization of their human potential. This work is an account of the history of the perceptions of development over time and the experts on this subject, as well as theories of development and results of studies on this topic.

Keywords : Development; Neoliberalism; Liberalism; Development Theories; Poverty.
