Abstract

LOPEZ RECINOS, Vladimir. Desarrollo, migración y seguridad: El caso de la migración hondureña hacia Estados Unidos. Migr. desarro [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.21, pp.65-105. ISSN 1870-7599.

This study examines the migration of Central Americans in transit to Mexico and onward to the United States, in particular the case of undocumented Hondurans who have spread into the north-east (Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas) with the intention of crossing into the U.S. Here we take up the following themes: history and reasons for emigration; the importance of this region as the migratory route; and the risks and dangers that displaced migrants endure in this region. The key points to examine concern unequal development and migration; new patterns and migratory scenarios, which have been appearing and are simultaneously being transformed over the course of recent years, especially in the process of the developing neoliberal / capitalist political and economic context. It also takes up issues around the increase in migratory flows, the transit routes and the vulnerability that migrants face daily with the increasing violence at various points along the border and along the migratory journey that leads to the United States.

Keywords : international migration; human rights; undocumented; forced migration; central americans; Mexico; Unites States of America.
