Abstract

BOBES, Velia Cecilia. Migration NGOs as Actors in Solidarity. Migr. desarro [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.28, pp.125-146. ISSN 1870-7599.

This article seeks to ponder the work of non-governmental organizations (NGOS) in the field of migration in Mexico and analyze their role as actors within migratory policy and management. We have come to see that this kind of NGO has a particular mode of action, combining assistive functions as well as migrant defence with acts of awareness, debate and monitoring migration matters, upon which they have succeeded in placing their proposals for attention to the human rights of migrants on the public agenda, positioning themselves as an actor with the ability to simultaneously apply pressure on the government while assisting in managing migration and policy formation / implementation. This work analyzes in a broad approach the range of actions undertaken by migration NGOS, showing that through these actions there exists a powerful capability to engage with the State.

Keywords : NGO; range of action; migration; non-state actors; Mexico.
