Abstract

HORNEFFER, Ricardo. Aristóteles. La metafísica como la ciencia de los hombres libres. En-clav. pen [online]. 2008, vol.2, n.4, pp.91-99. ISSN 2594-1100.

Metaphysics has been traditionally interpreted from two opposite perspectives: as a literally useless occupation because of its non productive nature and distance from daily urgencies, or as a science that, as it asks for the being -today still a valid question- is the most independent of all sciences and, at the same time, liberates mankind from unfounded opinions and theoretical prejudices. This essay presents both postures briefly. The first posture is grounded on the figures of Thales and Socrates, while Aristotle's Metaphysics allows us to establish how the questioning about the first principles and causes is "liberating".

Keywords : Metaphysics; science; being; liberty; uselessness.
