Abstract

CAMPOS, Carlos Federico. The Novohispanic Creoles Against the Degeneration Theory: From Apologetics to Assertion. En-clav. pen [online]. 2017, vol.11, n.21, pp.15-40. ISSN 2594-1100.

The appearance of a degeneration theory encompassed in the racial scientificism of the 18th century meant a huge blow to the status, condition and dignity of New Spain’s Creole people. The popularity and influence of such theory ended up generating an energetic response from the Creoles, creating an apologetic endeavor and a desire of revindication. This article pretends to describe and analyze such circumstances, recognizing it as another manifestation of the phenomenon of the caste discourse.
