Abstract

KROTZ, Esteban. Latin America at the Beginning of 21st Century: Between Dystopias and Utopias. En-clav. pen [online]. 2020, vol.14, n.28, pp.86-109.  Epub Nov 12, 2020. ISSN 2594-1100.  https://doi.org/10.46530/ecdp.v0i28.395.

This article champions a new analysis of the sociopolitical philosophical thinking in Latin America from the point of view of utopia. First proposes with reference to the works of Thomas More and Ernst Bloch a conception of utopia as type of sociocultural knowledge. In the second part, the article uses this conception in order to analyze three utopian glimmers which can be understood as exemplary and symptomatic in the political history of the subcontinent. Finally, the potential and the necessity of this approach are emphasized in the actual world-wide context, where dystopia is marking thinking and social life.

Keywords : Thomas More´s Utopia; utopia as social analysis; utopian elements in Latin American history; decolonization of social science and humanities.
