Abstract

GODINEZ ALDRETE, Abraham. Sexuality and Biopower: The Appearance of ‘Bare Life’ in the Contemporary Sexuality Devise. En-clav. pen [online]. 2021, vol.15, n.29, pp.105-124.  Epub Mar 24, 2021. ISSN 2594-1100.  https://doi.org/10.46530/ecdp.v0i29.410.

In the first volume of Homo sacer Agamben says that De Sade’s pamphlet “Philosophy in the bedroom” is the most radical biopolitical manifest of modernity. Agamben doesn’t develop fully the consequences thereof in this pamphlet as it is set up in the “dispositive of sexuality”. The objective of this article is to construct some of the phenomena of the contemporary sexuality device as per the thesis set forth by Agamben in Homo Sacer: “Sexuality in Modernity makes ‘bare life’ emerge in the ‘partner’”. To elaborate on this construction, I make an analysis of the three most important elements of Agamben’s thesis: Bio-politics in the literary works by Sade, reflections on Sade in the “dispositive of sexuality” by Foucault and appearance of “bare life” in the growing sadomasochism.

Keywords : Agamben; bare life; sexuality; Foucault; Sade.
