Abstract

LOPEZ HERNANDEZ, José Rudier  and  IXTACUY LOPEZ, Octavio. Conservation and development, the ecoturism case: An un unsuccessful environmental policy at “La Biósfera de La Encrucijada” reserve in Chiapas. El periplo sustentable [online]. 2018, n.34, pp.82-108. ISSN 1870-9036.

This paper analyses the implementation of environmental policy and tourism in the protected natural area “La Encrucijada” in México. The study is based on techniques such as extensive interviews of key informants and the cooperative observation of two ecotourism organizations. The results show that the ecotourism policy has not achieved a positive impact on the economic development of these organizations and has not generated participative and inclusive processes nor environmental governance. Therefore, it is necessary to reactivate the tourist activity with the creation of networks of cooperatives and financing of the public and private sector.

Keywords : Ecotourism; protected natural areas; environmental governance.
