Abstract
RUIZ PORRAS, Antonio; GARCIA VAZQUEZ, Nancy and GARCIA MEDINA, Diana Paola. Governance, income distribution and economic performance in Latin America. Nova scientia [online]. 2015, vol.7, n.15, pp.616-643. ISSN 2007-0705.
We study econometrically the relationships among governance, income distribution and economic performance in Latin America. The main findings suggest that: 1) The relationships depend on the particularities of each economy; 2) governance reduces foreign trade in the short-run and increases it in the future; 3) public expenditure increases governance in the short-run; 4) increases of fiscal revenues and public expenditure reduce future governance; and 5) gross fixed capital formation and currencies´ values are inversely related with income concentration. The panel includes annual indicators for eleven economies for the period 2001-2010.
Keywords : Economic performance; governance; income distribution; Latin America.
