Abstract

LEON VAZQUEZ, Nitzia Indira et al. Diversity of agave species from San Miguel Tilquiapam, Ocotlán, Oaxaca. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.spe6, pp.1185-1195. ISSN 2007-0934.

It was evaluated the diversity of agave species and distribution in the community of San Miguel Tilquiapam, Ocotlán, Oaxaca, Mexico, which is one of the districts known for mezcal elaboration. First, it was evaluated quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the species of agave. On field trips were located sites of 700 m2 and traced five quadrants 140 m2 to evaluate the frequency and density of plant species. At each site the data collected was elevation, slope, soil type and identified potential risk factors for agave plants (presence of pests, grazing, soil susceptibility by drag and susceptibility by flowing water). Were identified five wild species, Agave convallis Trel., A. americana L. var. oaxacensis Gentry, A. marmorata Roezl., A. potatorum and A. karwinskii. Populations of A. karwinskii and A. potatorum had the highest values of density and altitudinal frequency in ranges of 1 600 to 1 648 and of 1 900 to 2 035 masl, respectively. In the study area was located Agave convallis Trel. and A. americana L. var. oaxacensis Gentry that had not been reported in previous studies.
