Abstract

The use of information and communication technology has become a key factor in the dissemination of information as well as a tool for knowledge transfer in agricultural development; being critical to analyze the skills of agricultural extension in the use of ICT to provide agricultural technical assistance. For this analysis was developed and implemented a survey to 149 technical advisors in the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca in 2013. Being this a non-experimental study, descriptive - explanatory type, whose main purpose is to characterize the current situation among agricultural extension. Comparative analyzes show an index use of ICT higher in Chiapas than in Oaxaca. Being mobile devices used mainly for the interaction of social networks, while the use of phones and computing devices are oriented to processes of their work. Note that ICT are used to support the activities of communication with the producer for production planning. The study concludes that ICT is a necessary tool for technical advisors on improving productivity for agricultural development; however, there is still a great need to obtain the skills of technical advisors and their knowledge regarding the benefits of mobile devices.
