Abstract

MOYA-HERNANDEZ, Sandra Lourdes; RODRIGUEZ-MEJIA, María de Lourdes  and  ESPINOSA MENDOZA, Mario. Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris responsible of leaf spots in Philodendron (Philodendron scadens subsp. oxycardium) in Cuautla, Morelos, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Cienc. Agríc [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.2, pp.391-397. ISSN 2007-0934.

In the last five years in nurseries from the state of Morelos, philodendron plants (Philodendron scadens subsp. oxycardium) were observed with necrotic spots wet look and surrounded by a chlorotic halo; the presence of this disease reduces the commercial value of the plant and affects its quality. This disease was found with an incidence of 7-11%. Isolates from diseased tissue in BK and CPG medium were made, obtaining yellow bacterial colonies, gram negative, and aerobic and mucoid consistency in YDC medium. Reproduction of symptoms was achieved with inoculation by spraying an aqueous suspension of 105 CFU mL-1. The identification was carried out with physiological, biochemical tests, PCR, and sequencing the fragment 16S rDNA, in this way the causative agent of leaf necrosis on philodendron was identified as Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris.

Keywords : bacteria; PCR; sequencing.
