Abstract
CORREA MUNOZ, Magnolia et al. Molecular characterization of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis from sheep and cattle in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. Rev. mex. de cienc. pecuarias [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.4, pp.489-500. ISSN 2448-6698.
The present study is the first report of the isolation and molecular typing of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (Map) in cattle and sheep in Mexicali-Baja California; region with serological history of paratuberculosis in small ruminants. In this study, 5 blood samples of sheep and 1 from cattle showing signs sugestive of paratuberculosis were analyzed; serology results showed positive reaction to the Map ELISA with a reason s/p greater than 70 % for all samples. Fecal culture was also performed, three isolates were obtained , two from sheep and one from cattle, all were identified as Map according to the PCR IS900 and f57 and typified as type C on Map, by testing PCR IS1311 and analysis of endonucleases of restriction (IS1311 PCR-REA). The data obtained in this study confirmed the presence of Map in this region and contribute to the knowledge of its distribution within the country; in addition, confirms the presence of Map type C in cattle and sheep. More studies involving a larger number of animals, as well as the inclusion of techniques that allow for the subtyping of Map are require to learn about the biodiversity of this Mycobacterium in Baja California.
