Abstract

SIRIMARCO, Mariana. Police training and reforms: assumptions, meanings, and political configurations. The case of police recruits training in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Diálogos sobre educ. Temas actuales en investig. educ. [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.17. ISSN 2007-2171.

Police training has always been a privileged issue in the reform processes experienced by Argentinean police institutions. Police schools are in fact the first thing to be pointed at every time police forces are found to be engaged in violent or illegal practices. How is it that police training has become a field so available for transformation and retouching? How it has become a perfect example of police reform?

This paper does not intend to void this link but rather to inquire into it; that is, to reflect on the arguments and assumptions that lead social actors in the field - public officials, politicians, experts, journalists, and even scholars - to view police training as an ever-present ingredient of police reforms.

Keywords : Reforms; Police; Police schools; Meanings; Politics.
