Abstract

LOPEZ VELA, Valeria. Affirmative Action and Equity: An Analysis from Thomas Nagel's Proposal. Rev. filos.open insight [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.12, pp.49-75. ISSN 2395-8936.

This paper outlines the context wherein Thomas Nagel's affirmative action actually takes places as a Rawlsian theory complement. The pendulum effect between theory and pragmatic application calls for a concept capable of linking both realms. The Aristotelian notion of epieikeia, I submit, fulfils the necessary requirements to clear up the transit between -the ideal and the no-ideal while- protecting the idea of justice and its epistemological framework.

Keywords : Affirmative Action; epieikeia; Equity; John Rawls; Thomas Nagel.
