Abstract

PARDO OLAGUEZ, José Antonio. The Economy and the Sacred. Rev. filos.open insight [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.20, pp.119-144.  Epub May 02, 2023. ISSN 2395-8936.  https://doi.org/10.23924/oi.v10n20a2019.pp%25p.350.

I disscus Jean-Pierre Dupuy’s thesis: «the economy represents a continuation of the sacred». I try to clarify the sense of this thesis through the exposition of Rene Girard’s theory of the sacred. I come to the following conclusion: the sense that Dupuy assigns to that thesis is disputable, but it could be valid if one assigns it another sense, namely, the Hegelian thesis according to which the modern society is the fulfilment of Christianity.

Keywords : capitalism; Girard; mimesis; sacrifice; scarcity.
