Abstract

This essay aims to trace the presence of critical cynicism in the Mexican cultural production. Throughout different moments, we will observe the influence of this philosophical current, as well as the spontaneous appearance of this temperament produced under certain socio-political conditions. First, we will present the construction of the myth of the «good savage» based on the influence of cynicism on Christianity. Afterwards, we will reflect on the temperament of two key figures for the construction of two popular tropes: the lépero and the pelado. Finally, we will address cynicism in current Mexican cultural production, demonstrating its human, universal and transhistorical character.
