Abstract

Overall, the planet is roughly 0.8°C warmer than in the 18th century, before the industrial revolution, and could increase to 2°C warmer by the next generation. Given these circumstances, it is crucial to quantify the magnitude and intensity of change in each of the basic climatic variables. Climate change should be determined based on statistical techniques that search long registries for trends that significantly demonstrate its presence. This work seeks to identify climate change based on temperature in the state of Zacatecas, Mexico. To this end, information from 16 weather stations was processed, with over 50 years of high temperatures recorded for the month of May. General and specific statistical tests were applied to search for deterministic components. Three of these tests, the ones related to detecting and verifying trends, are described in detail in the appendices. Four of the eight weather stations in Partial Hydrological Region 12 (Santiago River) presented significant increasing trends, with a mean value of the increases between the recent mean and the long-term mean of 2.1°C
