Abstract

DOMINGUEZ-MORA, Ramón et al. Regional Models of Instant Maximum Annual Flows in Mexican Republic. Tecnol. cienc. agua [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.5, pp.15-32. ISSN 2007-2422.

A new procedure for maximum annual floods regionalization in hydrometrical stations belonging to 37 hydrologic regions of the Mexican Republic is introduced in this study. The selected stations measures runoff of basins free of reservoirs or regulation lakes upstream. The relative method's simplicity allows its application in case of ungauged basins but they must have rainfall records and measurable physiographic and kinematic characteristics, for example the drained area, concentration time, besides the maximum potential soil moisture to consider the lost. The annual maximum mean inflows (MQMIA) were used as axis concept, such that relating it with measured characteristics in any basin (drained area, concentration time, annual maximum spatial mean rainfall, maximum potential soil moisture) to estimate MQMIA in a simple way is possible, even for ungauged basins; on the other hand homogeneous stations are clustered taking into account the statistical behavior of the annual maximum runoff, to get factors that transforms the value of the historical MQMIA to that one corresponding to different return periods.

Keywords : Regionalization; genetic algorithms; surface runoff; annual maximum mean inflows.
