Abstract

The tampering of water consumption meters is a problem of increasing importance in many countries, resulting in economic losses for the water utilities. In the present article the great variety of tampering of meters are analyzed, defining the vulnerable points of them. Then it proceeds to analyze and compare the existing indicative and preventive measures to protect the meters, arriving at the conclusion that according to each legal situation there are measures that allow avoiding their tampering, vandalization and theft in an effective way. Finally, it is recommended for each legal situation what these measures are.
