Abstract

LAMBARRY, Alejandro. New challenges to the old literary genre of biographical criticism: Augusto Monterroso's case. Valenciana [online]. 2018, vol.11, n.22, pp.81-100. ISSN 2007-2538.  https://doi.org/10.15174/rv.v0i22.375.

Biographical criticism is located in the crossroads between literature and social sciences; it has a strict historical methodology and a penchant for narrative. In this article we want, firstly, to revise its theoretic grounding and, secondly, its application in the life and works of Augusto Monterroso. In order to write about Monterroso we consulted his manuscripts and personal papers kept in the Princeton University and Oviedo University Libraries; we also conducted interviews to people that were close to him. It is the goal of this article to reestablish biographical criticism importance (theoretical and practical) for the Hispano-American literary criticism.

Keywords : Biographical criticism; Augusto Monterroso; Literary criticism; Archive.
