Abstract

GALVEZ CUEN, Marissa. Agency and transgression in Claudia Hernández´s and Antonio Ortuño´s female migrant characters. Valenciana [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.32, pp.311-339.  Epub Dec 08, 2023. ISSN 2007-2538.  https://doi.org/10.15174/rv.v16i32.710.

This paper analyses the configuration of inmigrant and transmigrant female characters in Claudia Hernández´s “La han despedido de nuevo” and Antonio Ortuño´s La fila India and observes the adaptation mechanisms, strategies and social dynamics that are used as a way of self-protection or mutual care. We propose a reading of the representation of migrant women as complex, active, provided with agency and transgressive subjects as a way of counter the imaginaries consolidated by previous narratives where the female subjects have not had the leading role in its representation or study.

Keywords : Salvadoran literature; Mexican literature; Migration; Violence; Gender.
