Abstract

UNZUE, Martín. History of the origin of the University of Buenos Aires (on the occasion of its 190th anniversary). Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.8, pp.72-88. ISSN 2007-2872.

Shortly after celebrating the 190th anniversary of the founding of the University of Buenos Aires, one of the first post-colonial universities in Latin America, this article reviews the debates that were part of this process and how the disputes about the appropriation of the foundational moment between the clerical and liberal sectors, are taken up again at the end of the 19th century, in a dispute that gives rise to a discussion on the initial sense of the university and how they take part in the process to build an independent state.

Keywords : history of the university; education and politics; role of the university; Argentina.
