Abstract

ARRIARAN-CUELLAR, Samuel. Educational philosophy and praxis according to Adolfo Sánchez Vazquez. Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.13, pp.143-156. ISSN 2007-2872.

In this paper I try to analyze and assess the educational concept of Adolfo Sánchez Vazquez as an educational philosophy and praxis. First, I review the origin of "educational praxis" concept, a concept that derives from Marx. Then I give examples of the way this concept is applied in some social processes, such as the 1968 student movement and the higher education reform in Mexico. An explanation is given regarding the methods used by Sánchez Vazquez to teach his courses and seminars, where he translated his educational theory directly in research and in his teaching practice. Finally, I describe Sánchez Vazquez' experience during the war, postwar and exile in Mexico in order to asses his educational theory. Then, based on this description, I attempt to reach conclusions about the validity of specific aspects of Sanchez Vasquez's educational concepts: how is his concept of educational praxis related to his political and philosophical conceptualization?

Keywords : educational theory; philosophy of education; student movements; Mexico; higher education; Marxism and socialism.
