Abstract

MARQUEZ-CARRILLO, Jesús. University and regional policy in Puebla, Mexico: 1934-1940. Rev. iberoam. educ. super [online]. 2017, vol.8, n.22, pp.85-101. ISSN 2007-2872.

The creation of the new Mexican State, between 1920 and 1940, was based on countless strongmen and regional warlords. In Puebla the strongman Avila Camacho's regime started in the 1930s .The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze how the University came to be under control of the state regime as yet another "piece of the machine" designed to create an authoritarian regime —in sociological terms— . This regional regime was not far removed from the one being implemented nationally during the government of General Lazaro Cardenas. The article is based on interviews with survivors of the time, archival and printed sources and biblio-hemerographic references.

Keywords : politics; political power; education and politics; university-government relationship; university-society relationship; Mexico.
