Abstract

SAN BARTOLOME, Ángel; QUIUN, Daniel  and  SILVA, Wilson. Comentarios relativos al tipo de falla en los muros de concreto de edificios chilenos en el sismo del 27 de febrero de 2010. Concr. cem. investig. desarro [online]. 2011, vol.3, n.1, pp.36-48. ISSN 2007-3011.

The Chile Earthquake of 27th February 2010 had outstanding features in relation to its magnitude, duration, acceleration, frequency content, destructive energy, etc. The earthquake produced serious structural damages to several reinforced concrete buildings of different heights, particularly those located on soft soils, which are capable of amplifying seismic accelerations significantly. Especially, some repetitive patterns in defective reinforced concrete walls were observed in many buildings. Its nature was discussed by some Peruvian specialists without reaching any agreement. This article analyses these defective walls taking in account all done researches, the ACI design code, the Chilean and the Peruvian Code. In this way, some improvements to structural design are proposed considering the lessons left by this earthquake.

Keywords : Chile earthquake; reinforced concrete walls; defective.
