Abstract
MARTINEZ-CUERO, Julieta; PELAEZ HERREROS, Óscar and LOPEZ AREVALO, Jorge Alberto. Dualismo y globalización neoliberal en Chiapas: deterioro de las condiciones de vida de los indígenas residentes, 1990-2010. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2017, n.13. ISSN 2007-4964.
In this paper we analyze the backwardness of the indigenous of Chiapas considering the gap between them and non-indigenous municipalities in the state. For this, we use the theoretical categories of dualism and structural heterogeneity, reviewing the historical roots of the problem. The results show that the percentage of indigenous is strongly associated with poverty rates and with the indexes of marginalization, social backwardness and human development at municipal level. We also find that, in the period 1990-2010, the differences between indigenous and non-indigenous municipalities continued to widen, especially in those issues more related to market: wages, in particular, and income, in general.
Keywords : Chiapas; marginalization; poverty; structural heterogeneity; emigration.
