Abstract

PLAZOLA MEZA, Eduardo. Versions of Hip hop culture on graffiti in Ameca. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2018, n.16, pp.291-316. ISSN 2007-4964.

In the city of Ameca, Jalisco, Mexico, one can easily perceive manifestations of Hip hop culture. However, there is little scholarly knowledge of the meanings, actors, processes, objects and spaces of presentation of the ideas, sensitivities and performances of this culture. Our semiotic approach allowed us to translate Hip hop graffiti, which is related to individual, exclusive subjects who follow the symbols, habits, customs and perceptions of cholo and gangster identities, romanticism and attachment to territory. The specific version of Hip hop culture elucidated herein contributes to problematizing multiculturalism and discrimination, not only in Ameca but also in other small, semi-urban towns in Jalisco.

Keywords : Hip hop culture; graffiti; semiotic; Ameca.
