Abstract

TAH AYALA, Einer David. The Principle of non-intervention in Latin America: the Roosevelt Corollary and the Drago Doctrine. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2021, n.21, pp.173-195.  Epub Aug 30, 2021. ISSN 2007-4964.

The aim of this paper in to analyze the origin of the principle of No Intervention in Latin America based on the aggressions in Venezuela in 1902 led by Germany, Italy, and England that gave rise to the Drago Doctrine and a change in U.S. foreign policy that made it more aggressive and active in the region. The analysis centers on the theoretical vision of the Drago Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary as a crucial intersection that generated, on the one hand, a principle of No Intervention in the region but, on the other, a more assertive foreign policy approach by the U.S. that came to be known as the Big Stick.

Keywords : Drago Doctrine; Roosevelt Corollary; No Intervention; Latin America.
