Abstract

PENAGLIA VASQUEZ, Francesco Emmanuel. Capitalism, social conflict and socio-political action: main ideas for a Marxist proposal. Intersticios sociales [online]. 2023, n.26, pp.5-34.  Epub Oct 23, 2023. ISSN 2007-4964.

Marxism had an extensive development during the 19th and 20th centuries in the study of sociopolitical action and social conflict. However, from the second half of the 20th century its use as a theoretical body was gradually being displaced by traditions such as structural functionalism, strategic approaches and cultural theories. This was accompanied by the decline of holistic traditions and a shift towards the discursive and agency, causing a gradual abandonment in the study of the relationship between capitalism, social conflict and socio-political action. This article postulates that Marxism has theoretical-analytical validity for the study of conflict and socio-political action, however, both its breadth and diversity of traditions, as well as the difficulties to systematize and operationalize an analytical framework, have limited its application and use. From there, a theoretical-analytical review of the main coordinates of the Marxist debate of the XX-XXI century is proposed, identifying critical nodes for a research agenda.

Keywords : social conflict; Marxism; sociopolitical action; antagonism; class struggle.
