Abstract

HERNANDEZ QUIROZ, Anselmo. Morphological analysis of Sanskrit derivation based on word schemes. Cuad. Lingüíst. Col. Méx. [online]. 2020, vol.7, e144.  Epub Feb 09, 2021. ISSN 2007-736X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/clecm.v70i.144.

Usually, Sanskrit derivation description consists in rules of segmentation and concatenation according to the model of morphological analysis based on morphemes. However, there are certain patterns in which the relationships between the form and the meaning of the theoretically segmented subunits are not satisfactorily analyzed. Given this problem, an analysis model based on word schemes is applied to perform a partial and approximate morphological analysis of the Sanskrit lexicon. The word schemes outline bipartite morphological correspondences (derivation processes). The most relevant achievement is a homogeneous list that represents the establishment of natural morphological relationships that from the perspective based on morphemes are left aside. It is concluded that the derivation in Sanskrit is thus an empirical study, effective and intuitive, that benefits from a functional perspective based on use.

Keywords : derivation; Sanskrit; word schemes; morphological correspondence.
