Abstract
VARGAS BERMUDEZ, Zeidy; PORRAS MENDEZ, Xinia and CORDOBA BRAVO, Johanna. Compliance assessment for blood transfusion in a hospital in Costa Rica. Horiz. sanitario [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.1, pp.47-57. Epub Nov 26, 2020. ISSN 2007-7459. https://doi.org/10.19136/hs.a19n1.3333.
Objective
To evaluate compliance with institutional regulations for hemo transfusion components by nursing professionals to users in a public hospital belonging to social security, in the second half of 2016.
Materials and Methods
The study is quantitative, transversal / retrospective. The records of people transfused with blood components were reviewed; total 263 transfusions. The inclusion criteria are transfusions made by nursing professionals in hospitalized users. Inclusion criteria are transfusions performed by nursing professionals to hospitalized users. As exclusion criteria, transfusions carried out in transit services or by other health professionals were determined. The variables to be studied are related to the guidelines established in the institutional regulations for blood administration, in the three stages of the transfusion process (pre, trans and post.). The data was included in the Survey Monkey database. Descriptive statistics were used for analysis.
Results
It is highlighted that one or more aspects related to the activities are breached before, during and after the transfusion act, both clinical and administrative, contemplated in the institutional regulations.
Conclusion
The research shows weaknesses in all the transfusions evaluated in the study, therefore training and supervision of the correct blood component transfusion procedure is required, in order to ensure correct compliance with the regulations, so as to guarantee the security of the user’s attention and legally protect the professionals involved in the process.
