Abstract
ZAPATA GERONIMO, Degrai et al. Nutritional status in preschoolers and schoolchildren using anthropometric indicators in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, Mexico. Horiz. sanitario [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.2, pp.209-215. Epub Nov 13, 2020. ISSN 2007-7459. https://doi.org/10.19136/hs.a19n2.3681.
Objective
To determine nutrition condition in pre-school and school children through the use of anthropometric indicators, on children at Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche.
Materials and Method
A quantitative research with a descriptive non-experimental design, with a non-probabilistic sampling on children between 1 - 12 years old range. Nutritional status was determined through the use of height for age and Body Mass Index/Age (BMI/A) on the nutritional condition laboratory evaluation at the Universidad Autónoma del Carmen. Data analysis was conducted through descriptive statistics.
Results
625 evaluated children; 2% were low height, and 98% were normal height. And, accordingly with BMI/A a 51% malnutrition was found and 49% showed a healthy weight.
Conclusions
It is concluded that the overall malnutrition prevalence among the evaluated minors is high, so intervention strategies to diminish this phenomenon should be taken.
