The objective of the present study was to demonstrate the effectiveness of three cognitive behavioral techniques, two relaxation techniques and one intervention, to reduce anxiety levels in preoperative and hospitalized patients, as well as in their caregivers. The sample consisted of 155 patients and caregivers, from preoperative and hospitalization areas, of the Christus Muguerza Hospital Alta Especialidad de Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, who were evaluated for their level of anxiety before and after the relaxation techniques with the instruments. Anxiety levels decreased significantly according to the results. So, it could be asserted that the relaxation techniques used allow patients and caregivers to have a feeling of well-being.
