Abstract

BETANCOURT MENDIETA, Alexander. Patria y territorio en dos regiones de América Latina: Antioquia (Colombia) y San Luis Potosí (México). Cultura representaciones soc [online]. 2008, vol.2, n.4, pp.94-118. ISSN 2007-8110.

In the processes of construction of the nation in Latin America at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, the geographical representations played a fundamental role, especially in the creation of identity referents and as a fundamental criterion for the elaboration of a homogeneous imaginary of identification. Nevertheless, in this process that presupposes a national scope, the intermediation of the geographical regional spaces occurs. In this sense, the regions also constructed referents of identity derived from the geographical representations. The author proposes to establish an approximation in which two territorial representations served to construct imaginaries of the region in the interior of two national Latin-American projects at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, during which these regions faced the processes of construction of national unity.

Keywords : Fatherland; territory; nation; regionalism; Antioquia; San Luis Potosí.
